Where to get donuts

Where to get donuts

“I get some weird looks from people, saying things like ‘you’re going to hell.’ People say bad things about gays and it makes it hard to come out,” says a student at Belvidere North that requests to stay anonymous. Being gay in high school is a tough situation for many students. It takes away a student’s educational opportunities. With the stresses they face, it’s no surprise that  the GLSEN shows that the average GPA of LGBT students is half of a grade lower than that of their straight peers.

North hopes to fight these trends and provide a more suitable environment for all students by having a GSA. This can help because GSA presence in high schools have been shown to lead to positive views of LGBT people overall.

The first GSA meeting will be on Tuesday, Feb. 7. It will be in Ms. Smiley’s room 1509. There will be donuts at the meeting for everyone to enjoy.
