North Basketball Preview to a Big Season

Caden Brannan, Reporter

Belvidere North is looking to change their basketball program this year and tryouts start next week. They have had open gyms and conditioning for several weeks. They are trying to get in the gym and improve as much as they can in hopes of making this the most successful season yet. North will have tryouts on the 5th-7th and then they will start preparing for their Thanksgiving tournament at Crystal Lake Central. With a new coach, three returning starters, and several key contributors coming from the sophomore team, North is trying to get off to a great start to their season. North is coming off of one of the most successful summers in school history. They start the season playing in the Crystal Lake Central Thanksgiving Tournament against a well balanced Geneva team. North will be tested during the Thanksgiving tournament with games against Prairie Ridge, Mchenry, and Barrington.

North will begin their conference season with games against Harlem and Guilford. With hopes of being at the top of the conference this year North will have a stretch of games where they will play East, Boylan, Jefferson, and Hononegah. With East and Boylan being projected as the top two teams in the NIC-10, North will have their work cut out for them. And Jefferson and Hononegah are projected to be in the top half of the conference, and North will be trying to knock them off and climb the conference rankings. And with ten games where they lost by less than ten points, success is very possible. North will have a home game against Belvidere on January 1st, and they will end the regular season with a game at Belvidere.

With IHSA adjusting the amount of games a team is allowed to play, North will play everyone in the conference twice and they also picked up a home non-conference game against Genoa Kingston. They have made a deal with Genoa Kingston, so this years game is at North and next years game will be at Genoa Kingston. North beat Genoa Kingston both times they played each other in the summer.

North will be looking to make a run in the postseason as well. North has not won a regional championship in recent history, but they are trying to change that this year. It is unknown who and where they will play at this time, but North will try and prepare for everything throughout the year.
