Indoor track started their season last week with the boys and girls teams had their first meets. The girls team took first at their meet, and had a couple of the events really stand out above the rest.   The 4×8 team which consisted of Remy Bice (‘19), Mia Rodriguez (‘18), Stephanie Robles (‘16), and Jenna Lutzow (‘17) took first in their event and was a short six seconds away from setting a new indoor record with a time of 10:17, while the 4×4 team also took first and did set an indoor record.  The 4×4 team consisted of Taylor Ferguson (‘18), Emily Teagarden (‘16), Jenna Lutzow (‘17), and Sabrina Elder (‘18), and had a record time of 4:10.

The guys track team took fourth at their meet last Friday.  The 4×1 team got first in their event with the help of Jared Cantu (‘17) and Jason Rodgers (‘17).  But the top story out of the boys meet was Eryk Yunk (‘16), who got a 4:19 on the mile, which earned him top honors and also gave him the top ranking spot in the state for the mile event.  He also competed in the 800 and his time was a 1:59, which gave him another top finish, and he is ranked fourth in the state in that event. “It was a lot of fun to watch Eryk do his thing, its a really cool experience to be able to see the top runner in the state on a daily basis,” said Logan Walsh (‘19).

The guys’s next meet is on Wednesday here at North where they will face North Boone and Belvidere, while the girls will compete on Saturday.
