The Boys Golf Team has started the season as they were expected to. The season began with the Boone County open that has been won by Belvidere North every year. This year was won by North by over 20 strokes. North starts the conference season with a tough schedule. The conference favorite Hononegah being the second match of the year and the expected conference second place finisher Boylan for the third conference match.

The match against Boylan is arguably the weirdest that North has ever had. A normal match for Boys Golf has a round consisting of nine holes. However the match on Monday, August 29th was cut short due to lightning on the course. There was a new IHSA rule added in recent years that says if you start a round, then whatever the least amount of holes finished by a grouping is how many you count. So instead of having a round of 9 holes you can have one of as little as one hole. Which is exactly what happened to North on Monday. The last group only got one hole finished and so that is all that counted. The team lost a match based on a single hole. At the moment, they are trying to reschedule the match and try and get a whole nine holes in, but that has yet to happen. The team is 1-2 so far with a win against Belvidere and losses to both Hononegah and Boylan.

“The loss against Boylan was a tough one to swallow. It’s impossible to judge a round of a single person, much less a team, after one hole,” said Adam Veruchi(‘17).

They look to win out and finish well in conference and give themselves a chance in the conference tournament at the end of the year.
