As week three of the NFL and Fantasy Football season season rolls around, more and more players are being added to the dreaded weekly injury report.  The injury report can be a confusing thing to read, as the NFL requires that players are added if they receive any treatment for any injury, no matter how minor.  There are many star players on this week’s list that actually are in danger of missing this week.  These injured players could leave a huge hole in your fantasy lineup.

The headline of the injury report is Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson.  The 31 year old back underwent surgery on Sep. 21 after tearing his meniscus in last weeks matchup against the Packers.  Peterson is expected to be out for a long stretch of time, but there is not yet a timetable for his return.  This opens up an opportunity for Matt Asiata and Jerick McKinnon.  Both backs are worth a pickup in any league over 12 teams, as they are expected to split time in his absence.  While McKinnon is going to get more touches, Asiata’s explosive play ability keeps him fantasy relevant.

Another big name that shows up on the list is New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall.  Marshall has been a consistent WR1 this season, but he is being bothered with a foot injury.  Marshall is considered to be a gametime decision, which makes him extremely difficult to trust.  A waiver pickup to replace him this week would be fellow Jets receiver Quincy Enunwa.  With Marshall out of the picture, Enunwa would slide into the second wide receiver role, and would be in the WR2 conversation.  Enunwa has put up solid numbers even with Marshall in the lineup, as he’s put up double digit numbers in both weeks so far.

Rounding out the injury report is Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.  Garoppolo put up a solid week one against a tough Arizona Cardinals defense, and had thrown three touchdown passes in the first half of week two.  Right before the end of the half, Garoppolo was sacked and hit the ground hard.  MRI’s revealed that he has a sprained AC joint, and he is likely to miss week three.  Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has been a popular waiver pickup to replace him, as he will be facing the Cleveland Browns, whose defence has been one of the worst in the league.

As the week progresses, fantasy owners should all be watching the injury report, as players could both be added and removed from the report.
