Why does round pizza go in a square box?

One question that has been asked many times is why a round pizza comes in a square box. People have come up with very unique and creative ideas as to why there are square boxes, but the simple answer is that it is cheaper, faster, easier to make, and easier to stack.

To make a round box is much more expensive than making a round one. This is probably the driving factor for a square box. They are also easier to ship because they come flat and are then folded into their shape in the restaurant, making it much more desirable for business owners. Once the boxes are folded into their shape they are stored on a shelf until they are needed. A square box is better for being stacked than a round box, this is more desirable and therefore used.
