Stroll On State, one of Rockford’s biggest events, with many people to spread the holiday cheer, was a huge success this year. On Nov. 26, many people took time to volunteer and make  memories with the city of Rockford. With people taking time out of their own day to help and volunteer, even children and and teenagers came to help out.

From 3-9 PM, everyone is eligible to not only visit two real reindeer, but meet Rockford’s very own Mr.and Mrs. Claus. Everything was packed and streets were filled, with the ice fireplaces that had real ice in them at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 PM. A highlight of the night was the tree lighting at 6:15. As soon as the tree is lit, a wonderful performance with fireworks of many beautiful colors in the sky.

Stroll is worked on year round in some capacity. The majority of the planning takes place in July all the way until Nov. There are workshops that are held for two months leading up to the stroll, twice a week, and this is when new decorations are made and old ones are repaired. There are two full days of decorating downtown the week before stroll. Then, the day of, the last of the decorations go up, and  also have continuous maintenance of the decorations throughout the season.

“ My favorite part of stroll is the planning, the moment the tree is lit, and the site of so many people coming out to enjoy downtown , each other, and the holiday season”, said Jennifer Caiozzo.

Caiozzo works for the Rockford Area and Visitors Bureau, the  organization that puts on the event, and one of the leads. If you missed it this year, come out next year and bring your friends or family for a great time.
