The 2017 school year has begun, which means football is here again. With a 4-5 record last season, Belvidere North will look to take the NIC-10 conference.

“This year should be different than any other, the NIC-10 is up for grabs,” said Sean Lock (‘18).

Led by senior quarterback, Callahan Diercks, and a roster of returning seniors, North hopes their experience will carry the Blue Thunder deep into the postseason.

The Blue Thunder open their season at home against Boylan. In each of the last three years, Boylan has finished in the top four in the conference.

The senior class will have plenty of returning varsity talent, including the starting running-back, linebackers and offensive line. Sean Lock, Cruz Garza, Mason Stringini, and Hunter Johnson each hold down their respective positions. Some JV talent will come up to varsity including Jackson Kirane (‘19) and Adrian Acevedo (‘19).

North’s football season will feature five home games such as the first game against Boylan on 8/25, Jefferson on 9/1, Auburn on 9/15, Hononegah on 9/22 for the Homecoming game.

Starting quarterback Callahan Diercks believes that an offensive attack is the best way to beat Boylan.

“With a team like them, you want to outscore them and make the lead as big as possible, trying to stop them the whole game and not being aggressive on offense will eventually fail,” said Diercks (‘18).
