Fall sports kicking off

With the start of the new school year comes the beginning of all the fall sports. Football, golf, boys cross country, cheer, poms, girls tennis, girls volleyball, girls swimming and diving, and boys soccer all just started.

Most of these teams had various camps and practices throughout the summer, so they had a team set before the first day of school. On the first day of school the volleyball team had their scrimmage game. The freshman played JV and then JV played varsity. The next day there was the football scrimmage game. The football team splits into two teams at each level. Essentially, they are playing their teammates, but it is good practice. At the football game the cheer team, poms team, and the band also performed.  “The scrimmage showed how much fun cheering my senior year will be. I can’t wait for the rest of this season,” said Hunter DIxon (18’). They perform in front of the crowd to get prepared for the real games.

Other teams like the boys and girls golf team have already started their seasons. The boys golf team took 9th place at the Boylan Catholic Invite on August 10th, and the girls won their match against Hampshire on August 14 with a score of 193-235.

The girls tennis team starts their season on August 21 with a match at home against Huntley. Boys soccer, girls swim and dive, and boys cross country also all start their season. Boys soccer had their first game of the Dekalb Barb Cup in Dekalb on August 22 against Burlington Central. They won 2-0 with goals from Danny Alcala and Jaedon Aguilera  “I’m looking forward to this season. We have a great team and I think we will do really good,” said Leo Rosas (‘20).  Swim and Dive has their first meet at Auburn on August 24 against Auburn and Guilford. The last team to start up their season is boys cross country. On August 29th they have their first meet at Sycamore.

Sports events bring a lot of excitement to the school year for all athletes and some of the spectators.  This season will hopefully be one to remember.
