Jefferson vs North Recap

Last week, the Belvidere North football team fell to 0-1 on the season. The blue thunder lost to the Boylan Titans 20-7 on August 25 . Whenever a team starts their season off with a loss, it leaves a bad taste in everyoneś mouth.

“Boylan gave us a bad taste in our mouth and we know that we can play better,” said Callahan Diercks (‘18).

North looked to put that loss behind them with a matchup against the Jefferson J-Hawks on September 1st. Belvidere North got off to a fast start with a touchdown run from Mason Stringini (18´). North continued utilizing the triple-option offensive scheme to punish the J-Hawks defense. North got another touchdown run from Cruz Garza (18´). Belvidere North made key defensive stops on Jeffersonś first drive but made another costly fumble back on offense which led to a Jefferson touchdown to make the score 14-7.

North went into half leading by over two touchdowns, but their coach wanted to see more effort and less mistakes. Coach Beck was yelling so much, his blood pressure rose too much and he passed out for a short time and caused his team to become more motivated.

“It was kind of funny, we honestly didn’t know if he was coming back that night so he indirectly motivated us,” said Diercks (‘18).

The second half was the one that put the game in the books. North jumped out two another two touchdown lead and saw the first touchdown pass of the 2017 football season when Diercks threw a twenty yard strike to Jack Alenhius (‘18). North only had one turnover in the entire game and held onto the ball for long, methodical drives to not allow a Jefferson comeback.

“If we play like this for the rest of the way, I don’t know who can truly beat us,” said Alenhius (‘18).

North will look to beat their cross-town rivals, Belvidere High School on September 8.
