Best Local Haunted Houses

With halloween right around the corner, people are starting to get in a spooky mood. People prepare for this holiday with movies, decorating, hayrides, carving pumpkins, etc. One of the most common things though is haunted houses. The local area has many different haunted houses available.There are five very popular ones locally.

Taylor Ferguson (‘18) said, “Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love going to haunted houses and the weather makes everything better.”

Fear Fest is in South Beloit. It has three different attractions. There is the Haunted Barn, Blood Creek Haunted Hayride, and the new Fun House. Each attraction is $12, or you can purchase a ticket for all three attractions for $30. They are open 7pm-11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 7pm-10pm on Sundays.

Another one is the Trail of Screams in Rockford. It has four different attractions. There is the actual Trail of Screams, the Screamatorium, Zombie Wars, and Dark Stalkers. Dark Stalkers is a new attraction that consists of total darkness. It is $20 for all three attractions (Dark Stalkers not included). They are open 7pm-12am on Fridays, Saturdays, and halloween. On Sundays they close at 11pm.

A very local haunted house is the Karnaval of Karnage. This haunted house is held at the Boone County Fairgrounds. There is only one attraction at the event, but it is only $13 for admission. This haunted house’s hours are 7pm-12am on Fridays and Saturdays. Then on Sundays they close at 10pm.

Twisted Crypt Haunted House is just a haunted house in Rockford. In 2016 they made the Illinois Top 10 Haunted Houses list. Admission is only $12, and they are actually one of the only haunted houses open on Monday, October 31. Their hours are 7pm-11:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 6pm-10pm on Sundays.

The last haunted house that is local is Hopper’s Haunted House in Rockford. They are open during the weekends and the weekdays in October. On the weekends they are open 7pm-12am and 7pm-10pm on weekdays. They are also hosting Hell’s Weekend the first week in November. Admission to this attraction is $15.
