It seems that every year, more and more films anticipated by audiences hit theaters. With a growing culture of movie appreciation some are left wondering what’s to come for next year? This year we had movies such as Wonder Woman, Coco, Get Out, Baby Driver, Spiderman: Homecoming, It, and Ladybird that are received great reviews and earned top spots on the Rotten Tomato scoring list. Get Out is currently scored as the number four movie of all time. Even following a year like this one, is it possible that a 2018 film will take its spot upon that list as well?

Going through these by genres, let’s start out with the category of science fiction/action. Superhero movies had a big year in 2017 but what’s to come in 2018 will bring in large crowds to the theater world wide. Marvel’s Infinity War, the third installment to the Avengers series, brings characters from all realms of that cinematic universe to fight a great common enemy, Thanos, whose mission is to reign upon the universe and destroy Earth, the Avengers, and the Guardians of the Galaxy. But this isn’t the only Marvel film to hit theaters next year. Ant-Man and the Wasp, Venom, and Black Panther bring back some familiar faces while introducing plenty of new characters that will become crucial to the MCU. Along with them, Deadpool 2, The New Mutants, and X-Men Dark Phoenix are all set for next year to build up the X-Men Universe as well. DC has very little to compete with by only bring Aquaman to the table, but they have many more plans for 2019. Veering away from superhero films, Star Wars is adding another “story” to its list of films. Han Solo: A Star Wars Story is set to premiere in May and will give fans of the beloved character a new story to follow. Back in 2015, a familiar named dinosaur movie hit theaters and took that spot as the fourth highest earning movie of all time. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the second installment in the trilogy, welcomes back some old characters, including one all the way back from the first Jurassic Park, Dr. Ian Malcolm played by Jeff Goldblum. While those have already been receiving plenty of talk online, some honorable mentions can include Ready Player One, based on the 2011 hit novel, a sequel to the popular robot film, Pacific Rim Uprising, and Maze Runner: The Death Cure, which is the third book in the Maze Runner series to be featured on screen. And lastly, fans of Harry Potter get a sequel to the Fantastic Beasts series by winter of next year.

Disney will also be putting out quite a lot films next year, beside ones that are Marvel and Star Wars based. One sparking a lot of talk online is Mary Poppins Returns which is bringing back a well known disney character, but now played by Emily Blunt. A Wrinkle In Time, based off the popular young adult adventure book, is getting a remake Disney style as the trailer features bright colors and unique styles. That film is set to hit theaters early next year and stars Mindy Kaling, Oprah, and Chris Pine. Along with that, two very popular animated Disney films get a second installment. Questions will finally be answered when The Incredibles 2 comes out next summer right where it left off from the last film that had came out back in 2004. Wreck It Ralph is also getting a sequel next year and brings back fan favorites like Ralph himself and Vanellope.

The horror genre of films is expected to have some great additions coming next year. The Purge, of course, is giving audiences another look into the sick world where US citizens are able to “purge” and commit whatever crime they’d like once a year, this time from Staten Island, New York. Going back to 2015’s hit horror movie, The Conjuring 2, a new character was introduced that truly shook audiences. Valac will return in it’s own movie, The Nun, coming out next summer. Insidious: The Last Key is the fourth film in the haunting series and brings the famous Parapsychologist, Elise Rainier, back to her hometown to hunt demons, again. Lastly, there’s A Quiet Place. The well known John Krasinski returns to the big screen as a father of a family who is forced to live in absolute silence because they fear an unknown threat that is known to attack at any single sound.

It will be a big year for action as well with Lara Croft finally getting featured on the big screen in Tomb Raider. Mission Impossible has somehow found a way to get a 6th installment and will bring back Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. Rihanna, Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Anne Hathaway come together for a film about a band of thieves trying to pull off a heist at New York’s Met Gala in Ocean’s Eight.

Everyone knows the popular Queen song, Bohemian Rhapsody, right? You may know the band for their crazy style and popular anthem-like music, but Bohemian Rhapsody is set for 2018 will give fans of the popular 80s band a look into the life of lead singer Freddie Mercury. The lead singer will be played by Rami Malek, who has already been given praise by the remaining band members themselves.

Each year, movie fans are given a reason to go to theaters. In this case, 2018 is going to be a great year to do so. Whether you like action, you’re a Marvel fan, a horror movie fan, or just want to know what’s so great about a box office hit, you’ll find something to watch next year in the theater.
