Bell took the stage on Sunday night, sharing her story about being an actress. “I never thought I’d grow up to be the first lady, but you know what? I kinda like it. I think my first initiative as the first lady will be cyberbullying because I have yet to see any progress on that problem quite yet.” The actress joked while sharing her thoughts on hosting the show. She continues to praise those at home watching and those struggling to find success in the TV and Film industry. “Everyone’s story deserves to be told, especially now,” she said. “We are living in a watershed moment in time and as we march forward with active momentum and open ears, let’s make sure we are leading the charge with empathy and diligence because fear and anger never win the race. I’m very excited!” Before the show, Bell revealed how excited she was about being the first host stating: “I’m going to be as awkward and as weird as possible, and hopefully that will make someone smile.”

Sunday’s SAG Awards were always having a rough time, facing the NFL after several years without the stiff competition with TV ratings, but the 2018 drop is quite dramatic. The awards averaged 2.8 million viewers. That’s down more than 30 percent from the 3.9 million viewers from the previous year. The NFC Championship Game was wrapping up at the same time with 42.8 million viewers. The SAG Awards have gone in a steep downward tragedy in the last recent years. In 2013, the show pulled in 5 million viewers but the move to Saturday nights dampers the annual event but it has made its return to Sundays in 2017.
