Debate Team Places Third at IHSA

North had a successful run for this debate season – one that is long from over.

Competing at the earlier National Qualifiers, North had two teams to make the cut to go to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to debate with teams from across the country. The teams of Michael Milles (‘20) and Nicolas Altintop (‘19) as well as the team of Burke Cochran (‘19) and Johnathon Giesecke (‘19) qualified for the tournament. Nicholas Goymerac (‘19) also qualified competing individually in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

Earlier in the year the teams of Goymerac, Cochran, and Giesecke qualified to go to the Grand National Championship in Washington, DC.

But highlighting the successes is North’s performance at the IHSA debate tournament this year. Goymerac competed as an octa-finalist, losing to a team from Schaumburg. The team of Cochran and Giesecke placed third, losing to the team that got first in the tournament.

North’s debate team is currently looking for sponsors for the debate tournaments, to offset the  cost of attendance.

The team is also making fundraising efforts by selling chocolates for the next few weeks. Chocolate costs $1 and you can buy from most of the debaters that will compete at the national tournaments. The best flavor is Crispy, but many seem to like the Caramel.

Make sure to keep posted on the team further through the year!
