North Scholastic Bowl team finishes season off strong

The “regular season” for Belvidere North’s scholastic bowl team has finally come to an end. The last conference tournament took place on Wednesday, and North took third place behind Auburn and Belvidere. North won their opening round matchup against Harlem, had the second round off as a bye, and lost to Hononegah in the third round. After all of the third round matches had finished up, the top 10 overall scorers for the season were announced and given medals. North had two of the top 10 scorers; Tanner Mateus (‘19) and Tom Foster (‘21) placing sixth and fourth, respectively. After the announcement, playoff brackets were determined, with North slated to face Auburn, and Belvidere to play against Hononegah. Unfortunately for North, they didn’t live up to the scoring of their first two rounds, and lost against Auburn. Belvidere defeated Hononegah as well. That set up a consolation matchup between North and Hononegah, and the championship round between Auburn and Belvidere, which was not a surprise to anyone. North rebounded nicely from the blowout loss to Auburn, and defeated Hononegah to secure third place in the tournament, which is not a bad way to end the conference season.

The season for conference matchups may be finished, but there is still more yet to come for North. They’re going to be playing in the Masonic Bowl tournament at Boylan next Saturday, and the next match for Bergstrom Stateline Quiz Bowl is the following Sunday, but North’s opponent hasn’t been determined yet. No matter what the results of either Bergstrom Stateline Quiz Bowl and/or the Masonic Bowl are, it has been a great year for Belvidere North scholastic bowl.
