When To Start Celebrating Christmas

When To Start Celebrating Christmas

Justin Trimble, reporter

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, At least that’s what the song by Andy Williams claims. Most people believe Christmas decorations are exciting to look at. I remember driving around from neighborhood to neighborhood looking at Christmas lights. We would travel up to 200 miles to find the house that was coordinated with the radio station where lights dance to music is a great way to make memories with your family.

But when people start playing Christmas music in October and setting their Christmas tree the first day of November.

“It’s just too early to be celebrating. planning for Christmas events that early is normal but celebrating it’s just too early after Thanksgiving then you should start celebrating the giving season” said D’Marko Schossow (‘22).

When people celebrate too early it makes me feel like I have extra work to do, such as shoveling and grabbing extra layers for outside activities. Now don’t get me wrong, I like winter and the cold but I don’t want to do the extra work to enjoy it.

People need to start celebrating Christmas after Thanksgiving, period.  That way they can really celebrate Thanksgiving and enjoy giving thanks. To me,  that’s way more important than getting presents and such.

Christmas is a time to spend time with the ones you love. You are supposed to spend time in the present. It’s also really annoying to play Christmas music two months before the actual holiday. It ruins the specialness of Christmas songs because they are overplayed.

Even though it’s almost Thanksgiving, that does not mean that it’s ok to play Christmas music since we still have over a month until Christmas. So until then play the music that has nothing to do with Christmas and have a very Merry Thanksgiving.
