The girls` varsity tennis team is wrapping up another successful year. On Sept. 28, the girls beat Rockford Lutheran, and defeated East on Sept. 29. On Sept. 30, the girls beat Woodstock North, but unfortunately loss to Boylan on Oct. 1.

“Without any seniors in our starting lineup, we took fourth in our conference,” said Coach Ken Hillman. “We look forward to getting some girls to state, and are looking forward to next year.”

On Saturday Oct. 10, the girls took fourth place in the NIC-10 conference tournament at Harlem.

“Tennis this year was a great success,” said Eileen Bunt (‘18). “Our team overall worked very hard, and we grew a lot throughout the season. I personally would not have done as well as I did this season if it weren’t for my doubles partner. Even with our ups and downs, this year has truly been the best.”

With tennis practice everyday after school, and a couple of matches during the school week, the girls have been engaged since day one.

“As a senior on the tennis team, I really feel that our team has improved since last year,” said Annissa Hintt (‘16). I am glad I came out to play my junior year. I wish I had joined earlier because I have made many friends since joining the team. I plan on continuing playing tennis after my high school career.”

Sectionals was held on Oct. 16-17, at Belvidere North`s tennis courts. Kayla Vittore (‘18) and Leraaen Abbott (‘17) took first, which means they will be going to state on state Oct. 22-23, with the location still to be determined.
