Boys Basketball Recap

Belvidere North boys basketball has had an up and down season up to this point. They are currently 11-13 overall and 5-6 in conference. They have six losses by less than ten points, which include five point losses to Jefferson and Auburn. 

While North has fallen short in some games, they have big wins against top teams in the conference. North beat Boylan 52-50 on a buzzer beating lay up by Anthony Espenson(‘20). North’s leading scorers were Espenson with 22points, Carson Blatchford(‘20) with 15 points and Zach Reidenbach(‘20) with 12 points. Boylan is currently tied with Jefferson for first place in the conference. 

North also beat Hononegah 55-54 after they were up by 16 in the third quarter. They got going early behind Anthony Espenson, who scored 15 points in the first and finished with 17 points. North also got offensive help from Carson Blatchford, who finished with 26 points and eight threes.

North’s other big win was against Guilford, who was fifth in the conference after a couple of close losses bumped them out of first. It was a low scoring game as North won 34-28, they got the majority of their scoring from Espenson and Reidenbach, who combined for 22 of North’s 34 points. North’s defense was able to hold Guilford’s best player, Tyler Knuth(‘20) to 11 points. They also held Guilford’s Jack Holmstrom(‘20) scoreless and they only allowed him to take three shots the whole night. 

North also has wins against Belvidere, Antioch, Freeport, McHenry, Prairie Ridge, and Crystal Lake Central. 

With multiple big wins and several close losses, North hopes to turn things around and be playing their best when the postseason rolls around. North will be hosting the regional this year and they will have the opportunity to make a deep run in the playoffs.
