Spring Break Vacation Spots 2020

At the start of March, spring break begins to creep closer. This is a time for students and parents to get a much-needed break from work and school. Families usually decide to go to warm places like Florida for some fun in the sun, but there are other options to choose from. Price comes into play, vacations are not cheap since you have the airplane fares, hotel fares, food, etc to save up for. When looking for future spring break destinations, it’s important to look up activities that you can do there, so your time is well spent. Making memories is important and it all depends on the activities you do.

Laney Kuss (‘22) went to Florida for Spring Break in 2019 and said, “Last year I went to Fort Lauderdale with my friends and we did a lot of cool things. My favorite was going sailing on the ocean and I thought it was a really fun experience.”

Warm places are a hotspot for spring break, the sand, and salty ocean water is soothing. Here are five places to consider spending your time for spring break. Dominica, Caribbean is an English speaking volcanic island between the French Islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe. One of their best beaches is Batibou Beach which is located on the island’s Atlantic coast. You can find yourself rafting down the Indian River, chasing waterfalls and hiking through the lush rainforest and jungle that wraps around the entire island.

Different from others would be going to a spring break location to ski, in Utah. Ogden, UT is thirty minutes north of Salt Lake City and is filled with great restaurants and shops on their main street, 25th Street. When it comes time to ski, Snowbasin Resort is only 20 minutes away and is great for families because they have ski programs for kids also.

Hilton Head, SC is down south and is just off the coast of South Carolina and Georgia. A 12-mile-long, 5-mile-wide island consisting of 14 miles of sandy beaches, 20 world-class golf courses and more than 100 miles of bike paths. There are plenty of Resort choices including family-friendly hotels, beachside resorts, and vacation rentals. There are many eco-adventures like crabbing or spotting bottlenose dolphins playing in the surf.

Kauai, Hawaii is a place to go for a great experience, with warm and sunny weather along with being on an island. A great place to stay is at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort, which is a family favorite resort with a pool complex including saltwater lagoons and freshwater pools with waterfalls, grottos and a 150-foot slide. If you are wanting to learn to surf, you can take lessons at the Kauai Surf School. There are group lessons with an instructor to learn to ride the waves.

Lastly, another relaxing place to go would be somewhere close to home. It takes about two hours to travel up north of here but you won’t regret the time spent in the Dells. Wisconsin is King to many water parks, like Kalahari that is filled with many things to do. The indoor water park is made up of 125,000 square feet of slides, lazy rivers, wave pools, and whirlpools. There is also an indoor theme park with a Ferris wheel, indoor go-carts, bowling, and arcade games.

Overall, spring break is all about making memories and spending time with the family, so find the best fit where you and your family can have a fun time filled with fun activities and time to relax.
