After finishing the regular season 14-17, North prepared to host their first round of regionals with a game against Freeport. The first quarter went back and forth between the two teams as the energy was high in the gym. North was able to end the quarter with a layup by Anthony Espenson(‘20), which gave North the lead 10-6. In the second quarter, Freeport went on a run of their own to end the first half and North went into halftime down 22-21. North responded in the second half and outscored Freeport 32-23 in the third and fourth quarters. Their scoring was led by Anthony Espenson, who had 22 points on the night, and Zach Reidenbach(‘20), who added 11 points. North got the stops late and made their free throws, which allowed them to move onto the first regional championship since 2011.

North got matched up with 22-7, Wauconda. It was another very close first quarter, but North was able to get the stops they needed to end the quarter up 11-9. The second quarter was more of the same as neither team could seem to pull away and they went into halftime tied 18-18. In the second half, North struggled to find scoring from anybody besides Anthony Espenson, who ended with 17 points, Zach Reidenbach and Kyle Kaempfer(‘20), who both added 10 points. North didn’t have another player score over five points. Even with the low scoring, North still found themselves in the game. They were down by five going into the fourth quarter, but they were able to cut the lead to two with just over three minutes to play. North never got any closer than two and Wauconda hit back to back threes to eventually pull away. North was unable to make a final run and lost 54-41. North finished the season 15-18 and 8-10 in conference, which put them in sixth place in the conference.
