Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Pride and Prejudice and zombies      Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a combination of Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice with the effects of zombies and horror. Compared to the original Pride and Prejudice, both contain the plot of a woman learning to chose her own path in life. Although the newer rendition contains more of a horror quality, Elizabeth Bennet is still going after the man she loves on her own time. The movie was full of action, more towards the end, and had very few moments of humor. Although the movie could’ve been more exciting and a better background story, it didn’t fail to disappoint with special effects and look-alike zombie makeup. The movie had several jumps from where the girls would be dancing to all of a sudden slaying zombies.

The film also likes to focus on the main idea of empowering women, fighting alongside men. The main sisters were taught and trained for war and the main idea supports the fact that they do not wish to give up their power to men. The best castings were Lena Headey, who takes the lead as a super-warrior Lady Catherine de Bourgh, and Matt Smith as Mr. Collins, who was charming and witty. Lily James and Sam Riley played the two main characters which had chemistry while fighting together for most of the movie.

The movie, being based off a book by Seth Grahame-Smith, didn’t disappoint with clever dialogue and incredible special effects. The movie had been looked at as a parody, because it originated from Pride and Prejudice, but I believe that it had its own twist on women empowerment and differentiated from the usual zombie movie.
